Do you find yourself waking up during the middle of the night?
Well there can be numerous reasons that you have a restless spirit, here are my top 3:
- God tugging at your heart
Let’s start with number one. This reason is at the top of my list because God tugs at my heart at crazy times in the night lol. Oftentimes, God will wake you up in the middle of the night to speak with you. Many revelations are revealed during the midnight hour. Yet, we tend to ignore the tug, look at the clock “What its 3am, I have to go to work in a couple hours”, then turn in bed and go back to sleep. Been there and done that! We blame, waking up in the middle of the night on it being too hot/cold (which can be the case). However, it could be God wanting you to pray and spend time with him.
Worry can also be a reason you are not getting rest. The cares of the world are on your shoulders. You are trying to figure out how to solve the problem, have and interview, or big test etc. So you toss and turn all night with these concerns on your mind. Then you wake up always exhausted. WE are not meant to carry the cares of the world on our shoulders! The bible says, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken”, Psalms 55:22. In 1st Peter 5:7 it states, “Cast your care upon him for he careth for you.” Another one of my favorites Mathew 6:34 ,Do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own”It is definitely easier said than done to let go of your worry but those verses are in the bible for a reason. The Lord wants to carry that weight. Will you let him?
What do you
fear? We can be stricken with fear out the blue. It could be a dream that startled you, fear of failure, or fear of darkness. Surprisingly or not you would be shocked to know the statistics of individuals that fear darkness or fear of going to sleep because they may miss out on life. We all have fears but the word tells us, “Do not fear, for I am with you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand.”(Isaiah 41:10). Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid– (John 14:27).
Lets look at fear and worry from a physiological/psychological aspect. They both can physical ailments in the body. Such as:
-high blood pressure
We have to care more about our bodies and make sure we are eliminating certain stressors that can cause certain health conditions.
Spiritually we could miss out on the guidance or warnings God is trying to give to us if we do not wake up to speak with him when he is tugging at out heart.
I challenge you to analyze yourself when those restless nights occur. Why are you waking up in the middle of the night?
Lets push to be the best we can be. We are in this together!
